A WEEKEND IN PITTSBURGH PART 1 (POST 7/5/2010)

LET ME JUST SAY PNC PARK IS   FABULOUS! IT IS RIGHT UP THERE WITH CITIZEN’S BANK PARK!

It was a gorgeous and I mean stunning weekend in Pittsburgh. The Phillies were in town, Phillies fans were everywhere, and the weather was absolutely perfect! The fact that the Phillies stunk out the joint didn’t even totally ruin the trip. Although the team should be ashamed. After all the stadium was half full of people who traveled from Eastern PA to see them!

 

We went to Friday’s game. Let me tell you it was awesome hearing LET’S GO PHILLIES in their house. Although it was pretty cool that the local Pirates fans tried to give it back to us with a LET’S GO BUCS!

But the fact is that Phillies fans invaded Pittsburgh and it was a testament to how much we love the Phillies and this team. Let’s not kid ourselves though winning is why! I mean as we wondered about Pittsburgh there was no question this was a proud sports town! In fact there are many similarities between Philly and “the Burgh” to be honest with you. I hate to say it but they love their Steelers more than we love the Eagles. 6 SUPER BOWLS WILL DO THAT TO A TOWN!

There also was no shortage of Penguins jerseys and hats around town on the locals. You did see some Pirates stuff but no question they were upset with the management and deliberately fight to not support the team. And it is sad, for Pittsburgh has a rich history in baseball. They had Honus Wagner, Roberto Clemente, Ralph Kiner and Willie Stargell for crying out loud. They have 4 World Series Titles. Which is more than our 2 by the way.

 

Granted the last 17 years they have sucked rotten eggs but we can feel their pain, can we not? In fact the lack of Pirates support reminded me of times in Philly when our management was a joke. Remember the Lee Thomas years or the Ed Wade years? Yeah I wish I could forget them too.

But that is what Pittsburgh is getting. A team that has no money but also let’s incompetent people make baseball decisions. Some of the trades they have made are scary. Hey Florida doesn’t have money either but at least they get real prospects for their out going stars. Now truth be told the Pirates still do have a nucleus of young talent. Only time will see what they will do.

Any how the fact is they have an incredible place to watch a game, like we do! More to come …………………….
