WAIVER WIRE FRENZY! 9-30-09

Well its Wednesday so we are almost upon week 4.  As a result of a few injuries in week 3 there are a few players who should catch your eye if your team is in need of an upgrade.

#1-Glen Coffee-Frank Gore is out for the next 3 weeks, San Fran does have a bye in that time so Glen Coffee will most likely get two starts.  San Fran is a run heavy offense Michael Robinson isn’t likely to steal that many carries away from Glen Coffee.  If you had Frank Gore on your roster, or if you have a running back with a week 4 or 5 bye week Coffee should be a solid pick up.

#2-Chad Henne-Now there are some stipulations to this, if you are in a league that starts just one QB there should be better options available then Chad Henne.  However if your in a 12+ team league that starts 2 QB’s then it is possible Henne could help you out.  If you had Pennington pick him up, however I would also suggest giving him a try if your starting a QB with the last name of Quinn, Russell, or Delhomme.  Miami is still a run first offense and will use the wild cat a majority of the time.  While Henne will likely be regulated to game managing he does bring a much stronger arm to the table, which could also raise the value of Ted Ginn.

#3-Tashard Choice-Felix Jones looked amazing on Monday night until he sprained his knee.  He will be out for week 4’s game against Denver, which means Dallas’ will likely fill his role with Choice.  Marion Barber is expected to be back for this game but that shouldn’t matter to much.  Dallas leads the NFL in rushing and has had back to back 200+ yard performances.  With Jones out expect Choice who is a reliable option to catch some passes out of the back field to see a decent number of touches.

Non-Injury pick ups

Johnny Knox-Knox was Jay Cutlers primary target in week 2.  In week 3 he had only one catch for 7 yards, however it was for a touchdown and anyone who saw the move he made to get into the end zone can tell you this kis is a pure athlete.

Vernon Davis-If you have ever seen footage of Vernon Davis going through workouts it’s pretty obvious why despite under performing he is always ranked near the top of TE’s on draft day.  He has just about every physical gift an athlete could hope for.  Last week Davis had a big day hauling in 2 touchdowns, could he finally be ready to step up?  and could the absence of Frank Gore result in some more passing by the 49ers/  If you aren’t happy with your current tight end its worth taking this risk.

Mark Sanchez-With his 3 TD performance in week 3 Sanchez has officially arrived, he is now a very solid option to start at QB in any fantasyy league.  If your starting QB is looking at a bye week like Matt Ryan and Kurt Warner, Sanchez is a solid fill in for week 4.  He is also a could pick up to keep on the bench incase of an injury, and his incredible value if you play in a keeper league.

That’s it for now, expect a full week 4 fantasy preview to come sometime between Thursday night and Saturday morning.
