High Octane Game (EAGLES Win Dec 13)

 EAGLES TAKE CHARGE!

What a crazy game! The Eagles prevail a Giants onslaught and win 45 to 38 in the Meadowlands. The last time the 2 will meet there perhaps. (The Giants have a new crib next season)

 

Last week the Giants got out sta-ted by the Cowgirls and they won. This week they rolled up a staunch 512 yards on the Eagles and lose! Now I should add the fact that the Eagle got burned on some big plays that came as a result of horrific tackling. And then there was the one play where the Eagles had Eli Manning dead to rights and he somehow flipped it to Ahmed Bradshaw turned that into a lengthy gain including some lame tackle attempts.

 

The Eagles defense honestly did not have a good game by any stretch of the imagination. But let’s deal with that later. Let’s move onto the star of the night, DeSean Jackson.

 

Yes the Diminutive Dynamite was unbelievable. This guy is flat out fast and has lateral movement to go with it! The 72 yard punt return was all him! Frankly the punt the Giants made was perfect. It set DeSean in a corner but he did a little turn around in the culdesac and then hit a seam that sprung him along the sideline and he was gone!

 

Earlier in the game he found a soft spot down field along the hash marks and Michael Vick made a nice throw to him for a 32 yrd play and set up the Eagles first TD. Which was a nice McNabb to Celek play. Shortly after the Eagles popped the ball loose from Brandon Jacobs and Sheldon Brown snatched it off of a high bounce and ran for daylight anda second Eagles TD. Boom it was 14 to 0 Eagles. The Giants did squeak a FG in the 1st quarter to make it 14 to 3 after 1.

 

The Giants got in the end early in the 2ndwhen Manning found young  WR Nicks who spun a couple Eagles off of his shirt for a 68 yard TD. Terrible tackling! Extra point and it’s now 14 to 10 Eagles. The Birds tacked on a FG to make it 17 to 10. Prior to the field however the Eagles had a TD in the hands of Reggie Brown. Yes the Eagles were numerically pleasing 2nd and 2 at the Giants 2. The Eagles lined Michael Vick up on the outside. At the snap he came across the backfield to take a pitch that appeared to be an end around. But then he spun back and started running for the outside edge from the direction he just came from and right before it appeared he would turn and run he pulled up and hit Reggie Brown in the back of the end zone for a guaranteed TD. But Brown dropped the ball. The Eagles settled for the FG.

 

Not long after that was the amazing Action Jackson return. Eagles 23 to 10. But the Giants would not stop putting up yardage and put together a nice TD drive to pull with 6 points. It was now the Eagles 24 to the Giants 17. However the Eagles made a strong response of their own driving the ball 70 yards on a solid 9 plays.  1 of those plays being a 44 yard pass play to De-Jack. The Eagles gave Vick another shot in the Red Zone and this time he took the shotgun and hit the edge and dove just inside the goal line pylon for the score. A blocked Extra Point made it eagles 30 to Giants 17 at the half.

 

The Giants however came fee fifo fumming right out of the locker room and scored a TD on another long solid drive. Then after the 2 teams trade turnovers basically the Giants put together a quick drive that was highlighted by a 61 yard score from Giants Dominek Hixon  for a tying TD. This play was short pass and a long run compliments of pathetic tackling from the Eagles D. It was now the Giants 31 and the Eagles 30.

 

On the ensuing kick eagles return man Quenton Demps had a great 30 yard return. The favorable field position gave the Eagles the inspiration to dial up a big one. And it DeSean Jackson again who coasted in on a 60 yard fling from McNabb. Extra point good this time and it’s now 37 to 31. Wow what a game and  it wasn’t over yet!

 

The teams went at each other and back and forth with little success after that and into the 4th quarter. The Eagles then broke through for a quality drive and finished it with smashmouth Leanord Weaver TD run. The Eagles decided to go for 2 and they made a nice play to Jason Avant to take the 45 to 31 lead.

 

The Giants still had time though and marched down the field. they had Shedlon Brown toasted and a TD throw to WR Mario Manningham but…………… Andy Reid challenged the play and sure enough he was right, Manningham had his big toe out at the market for roast beef and he was out of bounds. Nonetheless the Giants got in for a TD and a 45 to 38 score.

 

The Giants then kick the onside kick attempt out of bounds and the Eagles can try and hold the ball to end the game but they don’t do it and the Giants get another crack. But the Eagles Trent Cole strips Giants RB Jacobs the Eagles rcover the fumble and the game is over.

 

Eagles have sole possesion of the NFC East! Oh yeah the Cowgirls are doing their December Dump.

• Darren Howard had a very good game including 2 sacks

• Sheldon Brown’s fumble recovery return was sweet. Although I still think he is costing you some playing with the hammy problem. He is getting beat too much in coverage

 

Problems:

• 6 more penalties

• Didn’t stop anybody on defense for the most part.NY had 27 first downs and 512 yards of offense. Oh yeah and 38 points!

• Nice mix of plays but the run game is sputtering efficiency wise. Shady McCoy needs more carries to get a rhythm

• Giants had the ball for 9 and a 1/2 minutes longer!

• TACKLING!

 

With San Fran and Denver at home at the Linc and the Cowgirls on the road the Eagles have an enormous opportunity to close out the NFC EAST!
