Goal #1- In Playoffs (Eagles Dec 20 game)

The Eagles 27 to 13 win over the mediocre 49ers mean they are in the playoffs. That is phase 1 for the 2009 season. The next goal is the NFC East Division.

With wins over Denver and Dallas that will be accomplished.

 

The San Fran win:

• The Eagles defense played pretty solid and aggressive. Caused 4 turnovers and held the 49ers to 0 for 11 on 3rd down conversions!
• Offense a solid 3 for 5 in the Red Zone
• D held Niners to 1 for 3 in the Red Zone
• Only 4 penalties.
• Held the ball for a couple minutes longer than San Francisco
• 422 Total yards of offense
• Held 49ers to 261 total yards

 

On a down note:

• McNabb threw 2 ugly INT’s. The one deep ball in the end zone was totally on McNabb. HAd he thrown the ball to the back of the end zone only DeSean Jackson would have had a shot at it. The 2nd INT was thrown totally behind the receiver.
• The tackling got a bit sloppy again in the 3rd quarter.

 

Overall it is clear that the Eagles defense can play against the weaker offenses. The patch work defense may have difficulty against the Saints and Vikings. The offense however is capable of scoring with the best of them. Especially if the full arsenal is ready for the playoffs. Having Westbrook 100% may be a bit of a stretch. However, if Jackson, Maclin, Celek, Weaver, McCoy all together with maybe some plays with Westbrook are ready to go, then the Eagles have a legit shot in each game including the Super Bowl.

Now if Sean McDermott can get the role players and the regular starters to play better team defense who knows. It’s all about peaking at the right time. Another factor is the special teams have been giving the offense good field possession. Hey you got 2 games to whip yourself into a finely tuned machine. And you are playing solid teams.
