FLYERS SEEKETH THE LORD (5/20/2010)

NHL Hockey may be down the pecking order in PRO Sports but you have to admit the Stanley Cup is the coolest of all Championship trophies!

For one thing it’s like Tigger. (From Winnie the Pooh fame) Yeah I said Tigger. The wonderful thing about Tigger is ….. ? yes, you remember “he’s the only one!”

Yes I think it is so cool that there is only 1 Stanley Cup. You win it, you keep until you lose it. And all the players and I assume some staff get their time with it. You can drink out of it, eat your cereal out of it, or toss a salad in it. I hope there is a line that people draw as to what they do with it or in it but the point is that is how classically cool it is.

Beating Montreal would or should I say will, be awesome but that ain’t going to bring the Lord to Philly! For one let’s be honest the Canadians are playing over their heads. They took out the 2 best teams in the Conference and now are being shocked by a Philadelphia team that is FINALLY starting to play up to their talent level. Yes that’s right are forgetting many prognosticators picked them to go to the Cup at the beginning of the season?

And that was with a joke of a move like signing Roy “do you remember I played once in the NHL” Emery. That said the Flyers are that good. And as well as they are playing I do not, nor do the, believe they are hitting on all cylinders yet.

That means assuming they continue to get better and Leighton continues to catch lightning in his bottle, they could actually do this! Plus I think Montreal is totally unprepared for this. Oh they were ready and expecting the physicality of the Flyers but they were not ready for good and a deep offense.

You see they were geared and had a plan for Ovechkin and then Malkin and Cindy Crosby. But while Washington and Pittsburgh are prolific in their “stud” lines they drop off quickly. At least in my estimation. Pittsburgh is a little deeper than Washington though. That said the Flyers have more balance through 3 lines and Montreal did not see that coming.

Frankly after an underachieving season I didn’t see that coming either!

Anyhow, let’s enjoy this ride while it lasts and who knows maybe we can have an Orange and Black Parade to rival the recent Red Parade of 2008!
