“Extra” Frustration And More Blah-nton (Phillies 6/6/10 Game)

Flyers Fall Hard in Chicago …………… OUCH!

Joe Blah-nton is back! Yeah the guy who Oakland was more than willing to part with. Oh yes I remember when he got here he actually stepped up his approach and pitched solid in 2008 and then made real progress in 2009. But that seems to be a distant memory now. Yeah he has moments. I mean for a bit he was on a routine where he would shut out teams for 5 innings and then implode.

And now the new pattern where he just spots the other team a few runs run out of the gate and at some point gives up his usually HR or 2. Sunday he just didn’t get it done again. Thus the 6.07 ERA is slapping the rotation right in the face. What will Dubee do? Ironically Blanton was the one pitcher who got better for awhile under Dube’s.  This sucks. Honestly this looks like a Kevin Millwood situation. I don’t think Blanton has good physical stamina.

All this said the Phillies still should have won this game. They had 11 hits and 5 runs but ……………….

• They stranded 15!

• 3 for 15 with men in scoring position!

• Victorino had a hit and a stolen base. He scored twice

• Polanco had 3 hits and 2 RBI’s and 1 ill advised base running decision. More on that later ….

• Utley was 1 quiet 1 for 5. No one wants to say it but he is struggling………..

• Howard pitched in 2 hits and 3 RBI’s but he also whiffed 3 times………. Howard reaches 40 RBI’s for the year.

• Werth looked downright lost. 0 for 5 also with 3 K’s ……….

• Ibanez continues to suck at this point ……….

• Brian Schneider had 2 hits. 1 of them a double …………

• Blanton had a hit

• Francisco had a pinch hit

• The Spanish Fathers (Padres) tried to give the Phillies the game by handing them 7 WALKS!

The bullpen did very well until it got to Danys Blow-ez.  I am growing tired of his 4.13 ERA. Sorry dude, you got a live arm and good stuff but you are all over the place and it is killing you and your team. Contreras occasionally has the same problem but did you see how he got 2 outs with like a couple pitches?

The Lidge and Romero watch continues as they still looked solid in their return from the dead.

Oh well at least the Braves lost …………………

Oh and the Polanco run gaff? Well he ain’t Victorino and he probably should not have went to third but I personally would be a hypocrite to question this one. When you suck and you can’t buy a run you have to take more chances then usual. And they did on that play. Maybe it was a little too much at the wrong time but I got what I was asking for.

Next up? – One more with the Padres and then the Marlins come to town on Tuesday June 8, 2010 ………..
