@Call To Arms – The Doc TRADE (Updated DEC 14)
HE’S STILL OUT THERE FOLKS!
The ALLEGED present offer from the Phillies is : J A Happ, Michael Taylor, and Dominic Brown.
If I were Reuben?: I would eat out a lot and …….. oh I guess that is not the real question, if I were Reuben in general. But what would I give for Halliday?
I would offer a left nut! Are you kidding me? Okay not really, I do have my limits. And truth be told I love my nuts, well not inappropriately, but you get the point.
Happ? – Yes I could give up Happ. Yes he has been a pleasant surprise for Philadelphia. With a strong showing after being called up last season and going12 and 4 this season you got yourself a middle to end of the rotation guy. It is doubtful he will ever be more. In fact remember Kyle Kendrick? Let’s face it Happ is somewhere between Kendrick and slightly above Joe Blanton in ability in my opinion. And I would love to keep Happ, but the Phillies have guys who can fill that role. But keeping Happ does have value, so I am not suggesting giving up Happ just for anyone. For example, I wouldn’t give Happ up for Roy Oswalt. Roy Halliday? Okay seriously think about it. Scouts compare Happ to Journeyman pitcher Mark Redman. At the end of 2008, Redman had compiled a 68 – 85 Win/Loss record for his career. His best season was 2003 when he went 14 – 9. He was 12 – 9 in his rookie season. He did win over 10 games 4 different seasons in his 11 years. Did not pitch in 200- in MLB.
Dominic Brown OF ? - Phillies insiders and Baseball America has pegged Brown as the TOP Phillies prospect. For starters he is an athletic stud. He was available later in the draft only because he is also a legit Football prospect. He was an All American Wide Out at the University of Miami, FLA. And his stock is rising. Brown is a tools outfielder in the eyes of many scouts. Still raw at the plate being a converted pitcher and divided commitment between football and baseball. Enticing as trade bait though because of his work ethic and athleticism. Frankly I would love to project him into the future outfield when Werth and Ibanez are gone, which I am sure will happen. Maybe even Victorino will be gone also but nevertheless, Shane will need some new blood beside him. But Brown is also very, very young and his values is more based on the future of what they think he can be and the facts mentioned above. So you may not be getting rid of what it seems.
Michael Taylor OF – Another tools guy but a big strong kid. 6′ 6 ” 250 pounder is a value if you are looking for young players. He is a little further along then Brown. He too would like nice in Outfield of the future!
So would I? – Yes if Halliday could be had through 2013. If you take Halliday for these guys and rip up his present 1 yeard deal and make it a 4 year deal, then I could part with this package. However I would prefer keeping one of the outfielders.
What about the coveted Drabek?
Kyle Drabek P – Can you define prospect? Hey potential is only worth so much. It has no value in my mind to get a Halliday. I like Drabek’s pedegree being the son of a former MLB pitcher Doug Drabek. So mentally Kyle Drabek gets it. And he has legitimate skills. But he is not even in the Phillies future for at least 2 more years. And IF he pans out????????????????????????? Don’t forget Drabek is also coming off of Tommy John surgery. He is still very young, so his production may match the hype.
I would prefer giving Drabek and Happ and calling it a deal. Am I crazy? Yes but that is beside the point. I am not big on potential unless it is a no brainer like Doc Gooden when he was youngster or Alex Rodriguez. All these other guys are projections. I am good with keeping Drabel also because of the what if factor.
The truth is you are weighing your offer with the Angels offer that is basically P Joe Saunders and SS Eirk Aybor. Both of wom make around $475,000 which is an enticing number. Both are young and yet have proved they can play at the MLB level.
Halladay can help us by using his no trade clauase as leverage. He could influence his destination. Although all things equal with money and quality teams he probably would be okay with the Phillies, Angels, Yankees, or Red Sox all the main players in the trade rumor mill.
But that could be a Santa Clause if Roy presses the right buttons!
Please give us a Happy Halladay ?????PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
