What To Say? Flyers Spilling the Cup (6/1/10)

Okay so both defenses came to play. After a see saw 6 to 5 loss on Saturday the Flyers lose 2 to 1.

I agree with Danny Briere’s assessment with a too much emphasis on defense in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Yes the attention to detail on defense needed to be there, especially after so many breakdowns in Game 1 but the Flyers needed to get after the Black Hawks far more than they did, I believe.

Look neither team has Patrick Roy or Bernie Parent for crying out loud, you need to blast the goal with a barrage of quality shots and quantity shots. And you can still play good defense.

I also think Peter Laviolette choked in this one. For one starting Dan Carcillo is a joke. Yeah I said it, a flat out joke. I don’t give a crap about his supposed energy andnd a punk. His tough guy crap is like an Iverson steal.  Remember all the Iverson steals? Yeah they were surrounded by him getting brutalized on the defensive ends for most of the game. toughness. In my view Carcillo hurts you far more than he helps you. And I know VanRiemsdyk has been sucking air but at least he has skills they may come into use. So the rationale is VanRiemsdyk sucks on defense. That is why is he wouldn’t play on a front line either. Putting Carcillo with the top line is even dumber.

Look I know people love the fighters and hitters but Carcillo is fake. The butt-hole took out his own guy at one point and he took a total brain dead penalty. The notion that you needed him as a physical boost is an embarrassment. And yes, I know I am probably in the minority in this. But the eyes don’t lie. If you take his handful of emotional bursts of physical play in context of how many times he gets schooled by the opposition what do you really have? A VanRiemsdyk who will do something stupid. Even the rare times Carcillo has been a hero, he has killed you at other times in that game. He’s a clown at the end of the day.

Of course I am still laughing at his whining about the “biting”. Dude stop your cry baby act. If your so tough why didn’t you just go after him after the game? If someone bit me intentionally, you better believe the only words I would have about it would be in his face.

Any how, back in the presence. Leighton also came up small in a couple instances. The wrist shot from the right wing was a shot you MUST SAVE at the NHL level. He dropped early, AGAIN, leaving his shoulders exposed. Mind you, the Flyers cannot hang the loss on Leighton, but he has to be a wall at this point. But there in lies the problem, if he was that kind of goalie the Hurricanes would have never let him go!

Also in Leighton’s defense Laviolette picked some odd times to play the bottom of the depth chart defense-man in front of him!

That said Antti Niemi of Chicago also is nothing to be afraid of and he did come up huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh well at the end of the day the Flyers dropped 2 on the road and are headed back home. They MUST dominate Game 3 and get back in the Series.
